Blog Post: Export and Import your database data

Users call for better support on Exporting and Importing data was heard and in version 2.0.4 enhanced Export Data and Import Data features have been introduced. Export Data Export settings Export data from Object Explorer to SQL and CSV Export data from grid to SQL/CSV, HTML and XML Import Data Export Data You can Export data from both the Object Explorer and from grid (Object Detail, Describe Object, Result Set). Nevertheless, it is worth to review and customize settings for individual export formats before doing any data export. Export settings XML, HTML and CSV export format settings can be found in eclipse under  Window | Preferences | Toad Extension  |  Export . XML export settings tab customize the root tag name (ROWSET by default) and row tag name (ROW by default) choose which CDATA datatypes should be exported in XML HTML export settings tab Choose a CSS style CSV export settings tab customize Field and Text delimiter characters and other options SQL format settings are the same as set for Worksheet. When you're done with setting up the desired export format, go on to export your data. Export data from Object Explorer to SQL and CSV Object Explorer allows exporting data to a working formats to utilize Import : SQL- as INSERT or MERGE statements CSV To export data from Object Explorer: Call context menu (secondary click) on a table or on a selection of tables. Choose Export Data... Export Data wizard opens. Click Add... button to extend the table selection with particular tables Add Parent or Child tables to ensure that you export all related data. Click Next to continue. Choose format in Export As section (SQL INSERT or MERGE statements or CSV), Line Terminator if you need to set platform specific Newline Style, Destination and define additional settings. To export and then import multiple tables using CSV format, use option  Separate Files (one table to one file) . Columns of the specified data types can be excluded from the data export process. Click Next to continue. Other columns can be excluded from the data export operation manually. In the last step, specific SQL or CSV  file export settings can be customized. Preview of the data export format is available at the bottom of the form. Export data from grid to SQL/CSV, HTML and XML From grid (Object Detail, Describe Object, Result Set) you can export data based on Grid Selection or Query Result . Export Grid Selection Export Grid Selection option offers regular CSV/SQL data export as in case of export from Object Explorer above, plus To export data selection from grid: Make selection of data rows you want to export. Right-click and choose the desired format. For CSV/SQL... option Export Data wizard opens on Destination and Format step and the workflow is as in case of export from Object Explorer above. For HTML... and XML... options you are only prompted to enter name and destination of the created html/xml/zip file. See Export settings for more information. Sample export outputs HTML  (grid selection, Blue motif) XML SQL INSERT statements export of View Data to Editor CSV export of multiple tables imported in When multiple tables are exported into CSV as Single File (setting available in Export Data wizard | Destination and Format ), Table Name column is added at the beginning and it is not possible to import such a CSV data file. This serves rather for reporting purposes. To export and then import multiple tables using CSV format, use option Separate Files (one table to one file) . Export Query Result From grid you can also export data based on the particular query, so always all data available in the grid are exported as they were queried. Export Data wizard opens on Destination and Format step and the workflow is as in case of export from Object Explorer above. Import Data You can Import data saved in SQL (INSERT or MERGE statements) or CSV format easily in Object Explorer. You can also import directly from ZIP archive of CSV/SQL file. Note: CSV file import currently allows importing data only into a single table. To import data into a table: In Object Explorer , right-click the table you want to import data into and choose Import Data... option. Import Data wizard opens. Choose file format, location of the file to import, file encoding is recognized automatically (the field is editable in case encoding is not recognized correctly or when you see wrong characters in the import data in the table). Also path to error log can be specified. Click Next . SQL/CSV Settings pane allows specifying options to allow correct import of the data Click Next . In case the data you are trying to import already exist in the destination table/s, you are prompted to either Update the table data, or Skip import of the data. Data is imported and Data Import Result confirmation dialog opens. In case of Update of data or if any errors appear during the import, the Data Import Result dialog shows information about the error log location and you can choose to open the error log straight in Toad Extension.
